Monika Aly

has been a practicing physiotherapist in neuro- and developmental pediatrics since 1975. She is a certified systemic family therapist.
Her professional experiences were enriched by an on-year internship in "Anna Torrigiani" in 1979. In 1980 establishement of an ambulatory therapy setting for children in nothern Berlin - following the example set by Milani in Florence.
In 1982 acquaintance with Dr. Emmi Pikler, a developmental pediatrician in Budapest whose experiences demonstrated that through attentive respect for a child´s own developmental steps and through the provision of a corresponding enriched play environment, a child can obtain their developmental potential through self-initiative. Her pedagogical premises as well as Milani`s and Gidoni`s concept of a child-oriented therapeutic process supporting the "normal" development provided the basis for her therapeutic concept for handicapped children in Berlin.
Pikler Gesellschaft Berlin was founded in 1988 as sponsor for the child and adolescent ambulatory therapy setting. In 1991 a second location in Berlin was opened. Throughout this time, Monika Aly was therapeutic supervisor and director for both ambulatory settings for "Child Development and Integration." The Pikler Gesellschaft has continued to maintain close ties to Adriano Ferrari and his team since Milani`s death. Since April 2006 she is executive director of the Pikler Gesellschaft Berlin, who is actually no more the participating company of the ambulatories.
Furthermore she has published a wealth of professional articles addressing her experiences with handicapped children.
Monika Aly provides ongoing continuing education for professionals in form of seminars and case supervision in many interdisciplinary teams throughout German-speaking countries as well as presently in a federally sponsored project in Macedonia.
